Competition for new Ballet choreographers

Organised by the Ballet de l'Opéra National de Bordeaux and the Centre Chorégraphique National Malandain Ballet Biarritz as part of the Pôle de Coopération Chorégraphique du Grand Sud-Ouest, as well as with the Centre Chorégraphique National Ballet de l'Opéra national du Rhin, the Competition for new Ballet Choreographers has established itself over the last 10 years as one of the major choreography competitions in Europe. Its mission is to support the emergence of new choreographers who will be the future of ballet in the 21st century.

Edition 2026

In front of a jury of eminent European ballet figures, the six selected finalists will present their pieces at the finale le 6 juin 2026 à 19h au Théâtre de la Gare du Midi de Biarritz with a view to winning :

One of three creation commissions
within the Ballet of the National Opera of Bordeaux, the CCN • Ballet of the National Opera of the Rhine, and the Ballett Schwerin (Germany). These commissions will be followed by the dissemination of the created works and long-term support.

Cash prizes :

The Aline Foriel Destezet Prize / Fondation pour la Danse Thierry Malandain – Académie des beaux-arts of €20,000

The City of Biarritz Prize / Caisse des Dépôts consisting of a €15,000 grant

The Professionals’ Prize of €5,000

The Audience Prize of €3,000
